RAIL coalition provides testimony to House Railroad Subcommittee on need for infrastructure funding program

The U.S. House of Representatives Railroad Subcommittee held a hearing on June 26 to evaluate proposals to provide new financing mechanisms for national rail infrastructure. Several proposals were submitted by advocates of public financing for improvement to and rehabilitation of the United States' rail infrastructure. Rail Advocates for Infrastructure Legislation (RAIL), of which Business Leaders for Transportation is a member, submitted testimony in support of a national rail investment program, similar to that proposed by Rep. William Lipinski (D-Ill.). This proposed program would provide a stable funding source in addition to but independent of the Highway and Aviation trust funds.
