Downtown Aurora

Do you have ideas for improvements to the near east side of Aurora? Want to share your ideas with other community members and the City of Aurora?  You’re in luck. This summer, the City of Aurora, in collaboration with MPC and Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, will conduct a visioning and planning process for the future of the near east side of Aurora. This three-part meeting series — similar to the Corridor Development Initiative process MPC has used to help the communities of Logan Square and North Lawndale to develop their own vision for community development — will give residents a chance to help shape the future of this neighborhood in Aurora. Watch a video about the Corridor Developement Initiative process.

Session 1: Visioning
Thursday, June 3, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Fred Rodgers Community Center, 501 College Ave.

Community members will be asked to help identify current challenges and opportunities in the neighborhood and weigh in on how the City of Aurora and its partners should invest resources in the future.

Session 2: Development Exercise
Tuesday, June 29, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Fred Rodgers Community Center, 501 College Ave.
Residents will work with developers and architects on an interactive block building exercise to produce development concepts for their neighborhood.

Session 3: Neighborhood Visioning Wrap-Up
Thursday, July 22, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Fred Rodgers Community Center, 501 College Ave.

The final meeting will showcase key results from the first two meetings and feature a panel of development, finance, and planning experts, who will guide a conversation about implementation. Participants will be asked to help prioritize recommendations and think about next steps moving forward.
