MPC releases Progress Report on "Building Successful Mixed-Income Communities" as part of the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Plan for Transformation.

Report examines how Chicago is blending together key ingredients for success in the surrounding neighborhoods -- namely quality schools, well-designed community spaces and ample economic development.

Throughout 2004, MPC and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, in coordination with the Chicago Housing Authority, hosted a series of panel discussions as part of a "Building Successful Mixed-Income Communities" forum.

Recapping and expanding on lessons learned through these forums, MPC's December 2004 CHA progress report focuses on the creation of opportunities in the neighborhoods around mixed-income sites, in the form of quality schools and education, economic development (through commerce/retail and job creation), and adequate parks, community centers and recreational facilities. While the CHA is at the center of the Plan for Transformation, this report looks at the essential work of key partners and sister agencies.
