Our goals for a sustainable and prosperous Chicago region

To solve today's pressing planning and development challenges and prepare the region for the needs of tomorrow, MPC works with government, community and business leaders to assist communities, demonstrate best practices and change public policy. By 2020, MPC's work will:

Attract 100,000 new residents to live near transit
Reduce housing cost burden for 100,000 people
Save tax dollars through government collaboration
Create 75,000 new jobs through infrastructure investment
Leverage $24 billion in private investment

Impact

These stories illustrate the progress MPC is making toward achieving our 2020 goals for the Chicago metropolitan region.

Attract new residents near transit By creating new opportunities for people of all incomes to live, work and shop near transit in neighborhoods across the city, MPC is helping grow Chicago’s stagnant population.
Reduce housing costs MPC and our partners have created a successful blueprint for regional housing authorities in U.S. cities to collaborate to help more low-income people afford homes in communities with good jobs, schools and transportation options.
Save tax dollars By helping lead two coalitions—one focused on improving local government efficiency, the other on identifying strategies to reduce urban flooding—MPC is modeling the benefits of collaboration and identifying streamlined solutions to costly problems.
Create new jobs MPC is advocating for significant investments in our transportation network, as well as our rivers and riverfronts, to keep our economy strong, attract new jobs and improve daily life for people across the region.
Leverage private investment MPC is helping Chicago-area decision-makers rethink how to invest in infrastructure by deploying new financing tools. Union Station's redevelopment is a prime opportunity.
