has started on a $7-b system, which includes
two treatment plants that will do the work
of six. The Environment Ministry is spending
$7billion on the new Deep Tunnel Sewerage
System (DTSS). If it had just stuck to upgrading
and expanding the existing network, it would
have spent about $11billion to provide a
similar quality of service. The new tunnel
network also allows for two treatment plants
in Changi and Tuas, which will take up 110ha,
to do the job that requires six plants and
139 pumping stations now. ]##########-##########
