This exciting tour begins at the Thorten Quarry, a 400 feet deep pit and the intended storm water reservoir. After the steep journey down into the quarry, we’ll head over to the Calumet wastewater treatment plant where we’ll ride the elevator down to the pumping station. Learn all about them from the Tunnel and Quarry staff.
Better hurry, the tour is limited to one busload of visitors and it will fill up fast! So make your reservations early.
WHERE TO MEET: Meet (promptly) at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St., Chicago, IL. 60602. After the tour, the bus will return to the Cultural Center.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Please bring a copy of your ID that was submitted in advance, and a brown-bag lunch.
