Q&A with Kendra
Chicago region native? If not, where are you from and what brought you to the Windy City?
Born and raised on the Southeast Side of Chicago, CPS grad. I now reside in the south suburbs but at heart I’m a South Side girl.
What are three items on your life bucket list?
1. Be a contestant on a game show, I have tried out for The Price is Right and Don’t Forget the Lyrics.
2. Travel to Africa – I’d like to try to track my ancestry and visit that region.
3. I’d love to start a scholarship or trust fund that supports nontraditional students and people facing housing instability as both issues have had an impact on my life.
What’s the most rewarding part of your career?
Definitely the people I’ve met along the way. It’s been such a privilege to work alongside community leaders in neighborhoods across the city. Much of what I have learned about collaboration and engagement came from working with amazing families and grassroots leaders on mixed-income development projects in Cabrini-Green, Hilliard, and Uptown. They schooled me, challenged me, and in many ways looked out for me as I was learning how to do my job in those early years.
