The Chicago Zoning Ordinance rewrite process is well underway. Do you know how it will affect your property, block and community? MPC can provide technical assistance to your community group or block club, to prepare for the City's upcoming zoning changes.
The ink is just drying on the first proposed changes to
the City’s zoning ordinance in almost 50 years. Do you know how
this new zoning ordinance will affect you, your neighborhood and your
community? The first module of text, released for comment at a public
hearing in December 2002, proposes new rules for Chicago’s residential
properties and open spaces. Chapters covering commercial strips,
industrial properties, parking and pedestrian-oriented streets will soon
follow. By early this summer, the City expects to ratify the text portion
of the new ordinance and begin the critical mapping phase, in which the new
zoning regulations will be applied on a district-by-district basis in Chicago’s
neighborhoods. What do you need to know about zoning, and how can you
prepare for the upcoming changes? To answer these questions, MPC is
offering brief technical assistance training to local groups and aldermen and
providing materials so they can lead their
a planning process to prepare for re-mapping.
